Proposed Fast Watershed Based Segmentation Methods

There are two conceptually distinct methods for computing watershed transform in digital images, namely the traditional immersion based simulation and rainfall simulation. The traditional watershed algorithm is usually implemented by simulating a flooding through immersion. The immersion simulation process starts with piercing holes in each minima (LIM), then this surface is gradually immersed into water. Starting from the minima of lowest altitude, water progressively fills out to merge, dams were built to prevent intermingling (Han Sun et al 2005, Beucher et al 1992). At the end of the flooding process, each catchment basin is separated from the other by dams (Watershed lines) resulting in segmented image.
